Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, United States 03575
This brand new cabin was completed in June 2017 on our 32 acre estate which includes the Moose Lodge, our 5-bedroom house, the Owl Roost (currently not available for rent), and our future home. A professional landscaping project was just completed and the awesome new patio with masonry firepit is now ready! The cabin is part of a spectacular 32-acre estate surrounded by National Forest and the Ammonoosuc river, an ecological paradise with numerous streams, wetland areas, ponds, and of course, the river and its beaches. We even have a fantastic swimming hole, about 7 foot deep, and you can tube right on the property thanks to the approximately 0.5 miles of river frontage. Enjoy the peaceful and serene surroundings and avoid the crowded condos, while maintaining incredibly convenient access to the ski resort, only a mile away, and the Mt Washington Hotel with all that it has to offer. This property is an ecolover's paradise, thanks to the diversity of its ecosystem - from river beaches to flood plains to maple groves to evergreen forest (balsam fir and red spruce) to wetlands and an incredibly healthy vernal pool. The entire property is a Certified Wildlife Habitat, and we are working with State and Federal authorities to increase accessibility while ensuring the protection of this stunning biological environment.
The cabin is bear-themed, and the craftsmanship is outstanding. The HVAC vents are hand-carved bear images, and there are masterful touches throughout. With 2 bedrooms and a loft, plus a futon in the living room, the cabin comfortably accomodates up to 10 people, and as luxurious touches such as central Air Conditioning, organic rustic wood flooring, modern slate appliances, and beautiful log furniture throughout. While surrounded by National Forest, the presence of the other 3 houses on the lot ensure that you will have much more privacy than you would have at the condos, yet not feel isolated - the best of both world! We currently live in the owl roost, so we are just a short walk away if you need anything. And for larger groups, inquire about renting multiple units!
As you walk in, you will be welcomed by the warmth of the rustic-style organic wood flooring. The main living space features a living room and a fully equipped kitchen. A stylish wood burning stove keeps you warm and cozy in the winter, and a large screen TV with Roku and access to cable TV, Amazon, HBO, Netflix, Hulu (all included!) can keep you entertained for hours. On the main level, you will also find the bathroom, with beautiful log cabinetry and natural slate floors and shower walls, and 2 bedrooms, one with a queen and one with a twin bed and a full bed in bunk configuration.
The loft is inspired by tree-house living, and features 3 built-in beds (1 queen, 2 twins), an elegant birch partition with twinkle lights for added privacy, and a "tree-house feel" thanks to the indoor cedar roofs that complement beds and storage space. Everyone who has seen it has been wow'ed!
In the summer months, you can enjoy grilling on the deck (grill provided!), eat at the outdoor table, or make smores in the firepit (wood not included!). The new outdoor patio will provide a perfect space to make memories with your family, and a small pond in the front yard adds to the ambiance. Watch the hummingbirds fly by, and in the winter, check the ski conditions by looking out the window - the slopes are right in front of you! A vernal pool provides a beautiful backdrop - and in the right season, it's teeming with tadpoles and surrounded by fireflies. Come enjoy the best that the White Mountains have to offer in this little slice of Paradise on Earth!
About the Moose Lodge and Cabins
Surrounded by National Forest and the Ammonoosuc River, the 32 acre lot provides a wide array of habitats for many animals. Some of the ones that you are more likely to encounter include Brown Bears, Moose, Snowshoe Hares, Beavers and White Tailed Deer. Bobcats are also present, but they are rather secretive and only rarely seen. In addition, the property is home to hundreds of different birds. In fact, the area in front of the Moose Lodge, named “Brooks Field,” is one of only 3 designated open areas of the National Forest. The National Forest Service keeps this area trimmed to support a nesting habitat for a number of birds.
In addition, you will notice a lot of wetland around the property, especially on the Western side. These areas are dotted with small creeks and vernal pools, which in the right season are full of tadpoles and salamanders. In early summer, however, it’s the fireflies (aka lighting bugs) that steal the show! You will see them everywhere, but especially over wet areas as they engage in their spectacular mating behavior.
Many visitors want to see moose – and rightly so. They are beautiful (albeit goofy looking) animals! The best spot is just a few hundred feet to the left of our gate, along 302. The muddy pit is one of the best spot in all of New England to see moose, and a favorite stop for the moose tour. Keep in mind, moose do not like the heat, and tend to remain in the woods during the day. The best time to spot them is spring time, or the evening or early morning hours in the summer. In the winter, they tend to migrate to higher grounds, where strong winds mean less snow accumulation and easier access to food.
Please note – these are WILD animals. While attacks are extremely uncommon, exercise caution and never approach wildlife, as tame as it may seem. Even that small bear cub can be dangerous – mama bear is most likely not far, and will not like you being too close to her cubs. If you encounter a bear, remember – they are as afraid of you as you are of them. Make lots of noise and they will most likely quickly turn around. Enjoy our animals but please, respect nature!

If you are looking to explore the White Moutains, I’d highly recommend this place! The cabin location is perfect and so close to many attractions! The cabin itself is absolutely adorable and decorated so cute! We stayed with our 4 and 2 year old and they absolutely loved the built-in little cubbies/beds upstairs to play around in. We stayed here the beginning of October, but think this would make an ideal location year round. A definite must stay and we hope to return soon! Can’t wait to see the new cabin finished, looks like it is going to be gorgeous!
Perfect location, close to ski slopes. We were able to run home to let the dog out and have lunch and go back to the slopes for the afternoon. Kids loved the loft area. So nice to sort of be tucked away from it all in the woods, but close to everything at the same time. They do need to change the timing of a pump that ran one night around 1am (scared me to death, but I am a light sleeper) and there were dead black carpenter ants I had to sweep up each morning b/c of the traps that were put out (which were working). Relatively clean, I had to clean the floor twice when we first got there b/c our socks were turning brown on the bottom, maybe just not great maid service prior to our arrival. But owners were very nice and we enjoyed our stay.
Thank you Julie, for staying with us, and we are so happy you enjoyed your stay! It was a pleasure meeting you and your family while you were here in Bretton Woods. We always want to make sure that our guests have a fantastic stay in every way, and we apologize for missing that mark with the cleaning for your rental. As a new unit, there are a few kinks we need to work out. We have already taken care of resolving this spring's ant issue, and have reached out to our water filtration company to assist us with changing the time that the filters run. They will set them to run in the middle of the day on alternating schedules, which should minimize disturbances. We also have discussed the issue of floor cleanliness with our cleaning team. It seems like it might be related to a new product that they used, so we asked them to be extra careful. The floor is a reclaimed organic wood floor, so it may be a bit different from what they are used to. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and will be using it to make sure we avoid these concerns for future guests! We have provided a cleaning refund and future stay discount so that we can hopefully have the opportunity to show you how great of a job we can do! Thanks for choosing Bretton Woods Rentals Aaron and Alex
Stayed here for a ski weekend at Bretton Woods with 2 couples, 2 kids and a dog. We loved it! The location is about 3 minute drive away from the ski slopes, but completely isolated and surrounded by beautiful trees. Great property to walk around right near a river. The cabin has everything you need and the cozy extra touches to make you want to come back. We loved the stove fireplace at night. The kids loved the bunk beds... and can’t wait to be old enough to sleep in the kid beds in the loft. This place was immaculate...very clean. As an allergy sufferer, I appreciated how well this place is maintained - no issues at all. The owners were great to communicate with. We’ll be back! Can’t wait to see this property in the summer / fall!
We loved our stay at this beautiful and unique cabin. Everything was spotless and new, and the beds were quite comfortable. It was nice being so close to Bretton Woods that you could look out and see one of our favorite ski trails (Waumbek). The highlight for the kids was the loft, that felt.like a treehouse! There were also great trails to explore just outside the front door for us and our dog. The owners were always available for any questions and were so nice and helpful. I highly recommend this cabin!
Had super time skiing here in Dec- Cabin is spotless and beautiful. Well secluded from US302 (at least 1/4 mile in on a private winding driveway). The grounds have plenty of woods and trails for the kids to explore... highly, highly recommend. Alex was a super help as well.
